Minecorp Opens its doors in Mackay

Each year, accidents associated with light vehicles account for a large number of injuries and fatalities in the mining and construction industries. Minecorp Vehicle Solutions is dedicated to developing products that assist in increasing the safety of light vehicles that operate in these environments.Mackay

Mackay has long been known as one of the key mining centres in Queensland. In a bid to offer efficient service and first class back up, Minecorp has opened a branch in Mackay - complimenting their existing Brisbane and Rockhampton locations. The new Minecorp Mackay service centre is centrally located on Milton Street and offers the range of products from Roll Over Protection Systems through to tray bodies and tool boxes all designed to withstand the rigours of the mining industry.

“Mackay is an exciting step for us” reveals Ian Schultz, one of the Directors. “This region has long been a hub for the mining industry and as such there is an ever growing demand for quality safety equipment for light vehicles”.

Both consumers and vehicle manufacturers alike have become increasingly safety orientated over the last few years. Manufacturers have worked on front and side impact collision safety through better designed vehicles as well as the fitting of multiple air bags, however there is one area of safety that has been ignored by the motoring industry – roll over protection. Currently there is no European standard for roof crush and the available American standard is out dated. In the event of a roll over, studies have shown that up to 30% of the roof strength is contained in the bonded windscreen and A Pillars. As you can imagine once the windscreen breaks there is very little strength left in the roof at which point significant roof crush occurs. This roof crush reduces the occupant survival space and this is when serious injury and fatalities can occur.

With this in mind Minecorp have designed and manufactured a range of Safety Cell Roll Over Protection Systems (ROPS) designed to minimise the risk of roof crush in the event of a roll over accident. Safety Cell ROPS are designed as an internal structure to suit dual cab utilities, extra/space cab utilities and wagons.  Safety Cell ROPS are also available as an external chassis mounted structure to suit single cab chassis vehicles.   All Safety Cell ROPS are independently Computer Designed, subjected to Finite Element Analysis (FEA Testing), manufactured from Roll Cage Tube and assembled in a jig for a precision fit every time.  All internal ROPS are padded in areas where head contact could occur with medium density polyurethane that has been designed to meet the Australian Head Impact Criteria padding requirements (ADR 3/02 and VSB5a). All internal ROPS are also designed to maximise headspace and minimise any impact on access and egress to the vehicle.

All Minecorp staff are up to date with mining safety and fatal risk protocol requirements and can offer the right advice as well as fit for purpose products. They offer a full range of products to suit the most commonly used vehicles in this industry.
